COVID-19 Grocery Donation

Spero's Hope donates groceries to 150 New York City families in response to COVID-19!

When COVID-19 struck New York City in March 2020, 930,000 out of 8.6 million New Yorkers lost their jobs. Helping our fellow New Yorkers with their job search seemed futile at the time, but we felt the need to support and give back to our community during such difficult times. We were fortunate to be able to team up with Chefs Warehouse, whose distribution channels were compromised due to the shut down of so many states across the country. We were able to buy fresh produce, frozen chicken, and shelf-stable food from them. By partnering with the Church of St. Catherine of Genoa, on June 6, 2020, we were able to donate the food to 150 families in the Hamilton Heights section of the city. From boxes of chicken and fresh produce to 10 lb bags of pasta, tuna fish, and oatmeal, we were able to provide multiple days of food options to the local families.

We are grateful for Chefs Warehouse supplying and delivering such high quality food and for the parishioners from St Catherine's for organizing the event and distributing the food to their congregants and community. We thank all the volunteers and organizers for making this event such a success!
